“Communication is important! My life is being ruined by LLMs!”
That’s what I’d prompt into an “Ai” so I could get an immediate answer to why I’m having such a hard time with everything lately. Because I’m finding it hard to explain in my own words.
Would it be a good answer? Probably good enough for others to read. After all, it’s statistically likely the best answer, right? It’d be the kind of answer one could skim and get the general idea without probing any further.
(Btw are these paragraphs too small? I’m writing this on my phone which makes them tall, and that feels readable to me. But what about massive wide screens? If you’re reading this on a curved screen, please please maximise it and send me a photo, I’d love to see my rambling in the most extreme formatting 😅)
Wouldn’t you want to probe further? Wouldn’t you like to? There’s thousands of quotes from writers (wow omg biased much eh? lol ofc writers say reading is important, like, fork found in kitchen y’know what I mean? no, wait, what’re you doing here fork, I didn’t expect you home for another week- no stop talking spoon, it’s not your fault it’s mine! FORK IM SORRYYYY) about reading being fruitful for a varied life and y’know generally being a good thing. So reading more is good. And reading the same thing over and over, the same sentence formulations and turns of phrase, is not just plain boring – it’s monotonous. (Editor prompt: respond with three more long and high-IQ sounding synonyms for “boring”. Then make a pun using an unknown antonym. thnak u computah)
So, what’s my answer then? Uh, remind me of the prompt cos I’ve just closed off about three of four tangents in my mind:
Communication is important! My life is being ruined by LLMs!
Oh, that’s a bad prompt. Where’s the question? What kind of communication? These tools require ✨context✨ to work well. Remind me to schedule some work training on Prompt Engineering /s.
What do I mean… what do I meeeeannnnnn…
ok this is going to be a two-parter. ooo I’ve never done one of those before! I think it’ll work, the art of it: this is my rambling, meant to showcase how the Act of Writing itself is important to being able to communicate your own ideas, and we should spend more time writing - and thus editing - our own ideas To. Be. Readable. And understandable!
See you next time…?
